Welcome to Children’s Summer Reading 2021

The Adult Summer Reading Program starts June 21st!

This year, South Brunswick Public Library returns to the Christopher J. Killmurray Building with our wild “Tails and Tales” summer reading program! You can sign up for our combined virtual and in-person summer reading challenge and participate from anywhere, anytime on the READSquared app!

How do I sign up for the "Tails and Tales" summer reading program?

Just download the READsquared app or visit sbpl.readsquared.com and create your account to begin your journey. If you already have a READSquared account, just sign in and choose the age-appropriate program for each child. You can even log your summer reading hours, keep track of your summer progress, and find new stories to read on the READsquared app! You can also call or visit the Children’s Desk and we can help set you up!

How do I earn badges?

You can earn digital badges by reading and by completing Missions on the READSquared app. We will be releasing 10 badges on June 21st for you to discover and collect. This year, you can collect real Brag Tag badges that match your digital badges! Just stop by the Children’s Desk when you earn a new digital badge on READSquared and we’ll give you your Brag Tags!

What are Missions?

Certain badges can be only earned through completing Missions. You can find Missions on the READsquared app. To complete a Mission, finish the challenges within that Mission to earn your badge

How does the Summer Reading Program work through READsquared?

With READsquared, the summer reading program is easier and more fun than ever! Just sign into READsquared and log the amount of time you read whenever you read! Log your time once a day or multiple times throughout the day to watch your reading time add up! READsquared will keep track of all your progress for you! You can read anything; books, ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, graphic novels. if you can read it, you can log it!

What if I collect all 10 badges?

Any child who collects all 10 badges by completing all the reading levels and Missions on READSquared will be entered into a drawing to win a Nintendo Switch Lite! The best part: the more you read, the better your chances are to win!

What about Pre-K Summer Reading?

Children ages 0-4 can sign up for our “Tails and Tales” summer reading program through READsquared also! And this year, preschoolers can earn the same digital badges and Brag Tag badges as participants in the Kids Summer Reading Program! For kids in the Pre-K program especially, you can log time they practice reading themselves and the time you spend reading to them!

Readsquared is this year’s hub to Summer Reading registration and activities provided by the New Jersey State Library.  It’s a virtual experience you can do from anywhere!
