Welcome to Adults Summer Reading 2021

The Adult Summer Reading Program starts June 21st!

Why should kids have all the fun! Here at South Brunswick Public Library, we want adults to be excited about summer reading too! Experts agree that reading can improve your health and happiness at any age!

Summer Reading: It's For Everyone

Once again this summer, booklovers of all ages will be keeping track of their reading and activities using the virtual platform READsquared. You can visit our READsquared website at to register.

Tails and Tales

The theme of the summer’s reading program is “Tails and Tales” featuring books and stories about animals – big and small, wild and tame, real or imaginary, friendly or scary. Or if you are not a fan of animal stories, you can read any book you want. Just remember to read…it is a great way to relax this summer!! And check our calendar for updates, details, and more events! Earn badges and points for reading, playing games and meeting the challenges. The more you participate the greater chance you have to win prizes!

Each person in the family should be registered in their age appropriate program to earn prizes that are chosen specifically for that age group. Once registered, you can start to earn badges and points for the books you read and the missions you complete this summer. The program kicks off on June 21st. Each badge you earn will increase your chances of winning cool prizes at the end of the summer!

Visit to create your account and get started and to download the app. Have fun and good luck!

With READsquared, the summer reading program is easier and more fun than ever! Each reader in the family should have a separate account in the program specifically created for their age group – kids, teens or adults. Use the READsquared app and log your reading for the summer.
Adults will get 50 points for each book they finish and enter into the app before the August 15 deadline. For every 100 points you earn, you will get a virtual badge and move up to the next level. Log in every time you complete a book and watch your points add up! READsquared will keep track of your progress for you! Adults can read anything: books, ebooks, audiobooks, magazines (2 magazines = 1 book), graphic novels…if you can read it, you can log it!

Certain badges can be only earned through completing Missions. You can find Missions on the READsquared app or website. To complete a Mission, finish the challenges assigned in that Mission to earn a virtual badge and points. You can surf the web and visit virtual zoos and aquariums and watch webcams of all types of animals, many in their natural habitat, and watch what they are doing when they think no one is looking!!

You can earn collectible, limited edition digital badges by reading and doing activities! Summer Reading participants will earn their first badge just by registering. Keep earning badges all summer long. Prizes will be awarded by random draw after the program closes on August 15.

Adult Coloring Contest

To celebrate the Summer Reading theme Tails and Tales, we are conducting an adult coloring contest featuring animal images.  Color, with any medium, any (8.5 by 11 inch) image that depicts any living or imaginary creature – animals, birds, sea life, or even insects; wild or domestic, undersea, land based or in the air, real or imagined, abstract or realistic.  Unicorns, Dragons and Mermaids are perfectly acceptable.  There will be three small prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners who will be selected by an independent jury after all of the entries are received.  The entries will all be posted in the library and the winners will be posted on our Social Media outlets.  Any adult, aged 18 or older, is eligible.

Entries are due no later than 5:00 p.m. August 29, 2021.  You can drop off your entry at the Information Desk in the library or on the Mobile Branch.   Put your name ON THE BACK of your entry with your contact information so that judging is anonymous.  Limit one entry per person per contest.

Readsquared is this year’s hub to Summer Reading registration and activities provided by the New Jersey State Library.  It’s a virtual experience you can do from anywhere!
