Borrowing Services

Cardholders in good standing may borrow any material available for circulation. Most borrowing is free of charge.

Most items may be renewed two times. An item may be renewed online, by phone, or in-person.

DVDs and video games are not renewable. They can be returned and checked out immediately for an additional fee if no one has placed a hold on the items.

All items may be returned at anytime to the outside bookdrop at the Library building located on Kingston Lane. Bookdrops located throughout South Brunswick are reserved for print materials only. Mobile Branch print items may be returned to the Mobile Branch, bookdrops, or the Library.

Accessing Your Account

It is a good idea to know how to access your own Library account.  To do so, you will need to use the 14-digit number found on your library card and your Personal Identification Number (PIN). If you do not have your PIN, call the Borrower Services Desk at 732-329-4000, ext. 7290.

The following options to acquire an item that is not available at the library is as follows:

A Hold (also known as a Reserve) can be placed on most items listed in the LMxAC Catalog.

Holds may be placed through the online catalog, at the Information Desk or by phone at 732-329-4000, ext. 7286. A library card is required to place a hold. Certain restrictions apply.

You will be notified when your reserved item is available. There is a 25¢ service fee at pick-up for each reserved item.

Reciprocal and Open Borrowing

Your Library card can be used at the nearly 30 member libraries in LMxAC (Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium). The Library also has reciprocal agreements with Franklin Township (Franklin Library Catalog) and M.U.R.A.L. (Middlesex Union Reciprocal Associated Libraries).

A card holder may also want to use the larger lending service Open Borrowing.

If you wish to participate, please contact the Borrower Services Desk for more information.
