Digital Literacy Instructor (PT, temporary through September 2022)

Part time, 10 - 20 hours per week

The South Brunswick Public Library is seeking a part-time Digital Literacy Instructor with excellent technology, training, and customer service skills. The position will assist with one-on-one computer instruction to adults in accordance with the New Jersey State Library + Partners Literacy Project, which aims to provide digital literacy training via a free, high-quality training model through public libraries. Intermediate to advanced computer skills are required.

This is a 10-20 hours/week position with some evening and weekend hours required. The position is expected to run through September of 2022, with the possibility of continuation contingent on funding.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provides one-on-one technology help by appointment.
  • Supervise use of dedicated computers for NJSL + Literacy Project.
  • Sets up and tracks client goals, providing support as needed.
  • Provides ongoing technical and subject area support and assessment for certification testing, such as IC3 (Internet and Computing Core Certification) and Microsoft Certified Professional.
  • Maintains schedule of technology-related appointments, classes, and programs.
  • Communicates effectively with library staff and other libraries about programs and services aligned with the program’s digital literacy goals.
  • Assist patrons with career-related services for employment, including job searching.
  • Maintains reporting on grant-related digital literacy initiatives.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Experience with instruction/training.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills and ability to provide technical support.
  • High-level proficiency with Microsoft Office, and familiarity with Microsoft and IC3 Certification.
  • Ability to creatively deliver training materials in an in-person and online setting.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support.
  • Ability to comply with record-keeping protocols.
  • Ability to attend in-person training at the Plainfield Public Library.

Salary:

The 2021 salary for this position is $20/hour.

Information Assistant - Teen Services

Part time, 12.5 hours a week
One weekend shift, weekday evenings

The South Brunswick Public Library—a diverse and thriving library located in Central New Jersey—is seeking a creative, enthusiastic Information Assistant to work part-time assisting our Supervising Teen Services Librarian. This is a tremendous opportunity for a college graduate looking to gain experience in the library field or for those who enjoy working with this age group. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, possess a strong commitment to superior customer service, and have a strong interest in services for teens.

This is a 12.5 hour/week position. Hours include Monday and Wednesdays, 4:30 to 8:30, and one weekend day. A bachelor’s degree is required. Flexibility with hours a plus. Experience working in a library or with teens preferred. Knowledge of teen and cross-over literature also preferred.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with teen programming both virtual and in person
  • Creating attractive displays to promote books and upcoming teen programs
  • Supervising volunteers
  • Providing basic reference service both in the Teen Room and at the Information Desk

Requirements:

  • 4-year college degree
  • Flexible work schedule, including some nights and weekend hours
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong computer literacy skills
  • Public library experience a plus
  • Knowledge of SIRSI/Workflows a plus

Salary:

The 2021 salary for this Information Assistant position is $19.07/hour.
