Dr. Stephen Alvin Reisberg (b. January 14, 1956) and Jenny (Haishan) Sun Reisberg (b. April 27, 1962) disappeared in the temperate rain forest on the island of Kauai on September 11, 1990. Steve, a graduate of South Brunswick High School, had been a creative research scientist, a caring physician and a gentle, whimsical, original human being. Jenny was a student of molecular biology at Harvard University, having come to the U.S. from Beijing, China. She had been a brilliant scholar who despised all cant and pretense.
They both reveled in responding to challenge. They delighted in discovering the glorious profusion of life as it bursts from every corner of our unique planet. The mountain crests and the ocean depths were their playgrounds. They lived their lives bringing joy to others.
The degradation of our earth, which they observed everywhere, saddened them, however. The Stephen and Jenny Reisberg Earth/Life Learning Center (SJ ELLC) was formed in their memory, to help care for it. Its aim is to encourage urgent examination of the consequences of further damage to our global human habitat, as well as to further community awareness of the critical local impact that the thoughtless disregard of our environment is having.
