INTERLIBRARY LOANS

To borrow an item that is not owned by the South Brunswick Public Library or by one of its partner libraries in the LMxAC Consortium, you will want to request an Interlibrary Loan (ILL).  You can initiate the request at the Information Desk in-person, by phone at 732-329-4000, ext. 7286 or you can make the request online by clicking on the “Ask A Librarian” link.

An ILL can come from a library anywhere in New Jersey or elsewhere in the United States and can take as long as two to four weeks or more to arrive at SBPL for pick-up.  An ILL can not be processed as a “rush” or on an ASAP basis.  If you are under a deadline, please make your requests well in advance of when you need the book and indicate if the item is not needed after a certain date on the ILL Request Form.

If the book is requested from an out-of-state library, there will be a flat postage rate charge of $3.00 applied to your account in addition to the 25 cent charge for loan requests.  You must ask for the request to be sent out-of-state and initial your consent on the Request Form that you will pay the $3.00 postage fee.

This special borrowing privilege comes with greater overdue fines and restrictions.  The loan period for any ILL is a maximum time of three weeks.  Interlibrary Loans can not be renewed or re-requested for at least three months.  Overdue fines for ILL items are 50 cents per day with no maximum.
