Don’t know what to read? – Search the Catalog

BUILD A BETTER WORLD is the theme for Adult Summer Reading this year.  It starts June 19 and runs through August 12.  Fill out a Prize Entry form for every book you read and submit them at any of the public desks as you finish.   No registration required!

  • Submit your forms as soon as you finish the book. There will be a weekly prize drawing on Saturdays from the entries submitted during that week. The first drawing will be June 24 and the last drawing will be August 12.  Winners will be notified.

Starting June 19, forms and collection boxes will be available at the Information and the Check-Out Desks.  You can print a copy of the FORM form from right here but completed forms must be deposited in the box each week by the end of the day on Friday to be eligible for the prize drawing.

There will also be some quizzes and puzzles on the theme that you can pick up in the library.  Complete a South Brunswick Architecture Scavenger Hunt and return it to the library by August 11.  There will be a prize drawing from the correct entries at the August 12th Build a Better World Adult Summer Reading celebration.

Check the calendar at http://www.sbpl.info/events-calendar/all-events/ for fun summer events, including films, workshops, presentations and crafts.

If you are interested in submitting artwork for the 6th Annual Collaborative Summer Reading Mural, contact bbattles@sbpl.info to participate.   Watch for more about this year’s mural below.

There will be an assembly party for the mural on the morning of August 12 at 12:00 noon followed by a reception with light refreshments and a screening of an entertaining and informative film about architecture.

2017 Summer Reading Mural

This summer we are going to create a collage of artistic depictions of architecture and architectural elements submitted by the community for the theme “Build a Better World.”

Artists Needed!

Participants are asked to submit an image of a building or a part of a building.  It can be a drawing, photograph, painting, floor plan (or whatever) as long as it depicts something related to architecture.  We are going to make color copies of all the work and then cut them apart to create a collage similar to the image above.  The size of each submission should be no larger than 11” x 17” and can be created using any medium.   All entries are due to the South Brunswick Public Library no later than Monday, August 7, 2017.

The only rule is that it must be your original work; you cannot submit something that someone else has done.  It could be your photograph of a building or landmark, but you can’t submit anything downloaded from the Internet or otherwise copied from another artist.

We will have a collage assembly party at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 12.  Once we complete the collage, we will have a brief reception with light refreshments and then at 2:00 p.m. we will have a screening of the critically acclaimed non-verbal documentary film Baraka, what director Ron Fricke calls “a guided mediation on humanity.”

If you want to be one of the South Brunswick artists whose work will be included in the collage, please contact Barbara Battles, Outreach, at 732-329-4000 x7637 or bbattles@sbpl.info to review the rules and register your participation.
