Part-Time CDL Driver/ Information  Assistant Needed

The South Brunswick Library Bookmobile is in need of a part‐time driver/information assistant for weekday mornings.   Must have a Class B CDL with airbrake endorsement, a clean driving record and the ability to safely operate and maneuver a large vehicle.  The successful candidate will be trained to perform library procedures in order to operate the Bookmobile independently to bring library materials to scheduled locations around the community. 

Under supervision of the Head of Outreach Services, this person represents the library in the community and independently drives and operates the Bookmobile with additional public service duties.  Responsible for maintaining the vehicle in good working order by performing daily inspections, reporting any mechanical or safety issues, refueling vehicle, cleaning the vehicle, and performing snow removal when necessary. Will also  perform basic library borrowing services including checking out and checking in materials, creating new patron accounts,  and collecting fines and fees.   The ideal candidate will have familiarity with surrounding areas and/or read, follow and understand maps and driving directions.  A positive customer service attitude and the ability to interact with people of all ages is key.

Must have the ability to do the following:

  • Effectively manage vehicular emergencies.
  • Lift, push or pull up to 45 lbs. to perform the physical tasks of book transport and delivery.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with all employees and patrons.
  • Troubleshoot customer problems and negotiate solutions whenever possible without supervisor input.
  • Operate the Bookmobile in all kinds of weather and climatic conditions.
  • Work flexible hours, including mornings and possibly Saturdays.

High School diploma or GED equivalent; some college preferred; must be physically and mentally capable of performing job tasks; must be and remain drug and other substance free (continuing random screenings are performed); must successfully pass a six‐month probation period; Library background or related customer service experience preferred.
