Information Assistant: Information Services Department

Part-time/18 hours per week

 

The South Brunswick Public Library is seeking an outgoing, energetic, customer service oriented individual to join our staff as a part-time information assistant.  Under the supervision of the Head of Information Services, this person will assist the librarians with fielding reference questions, assisting customers in placing holds, locating books and offering public computer assistance.  The ideal candidate will be comfortable with technology and enjoy working with a diverse population.  Knowledge of popular fiction and nonfiction is a plus.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent service in-person, on the telephone and via electronic communications
  • Assist customers with scanning, faxing, and printing
  • Find information for customers using online and print sources
  • Assist with basic customer computer issues
  • Perform Reader’s Advisory
  • Assist with library classes and events

 

Requirements:

  • 4 year college degree
  • Flexible work schedule, including a night, weekend, and some day hours
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong computer literacy skills
  • Public library experience a plus
  • Knowledge of SIRSI/Workflows a plus

 

Anticipated 2016 salary pending contract ratification is $17.79/hr.

Page/Shelver in the Borrower Services Department

12 hrs. per week – evenings and one weekend day required

Salary:  $8.38 per hour

 

The South Brunswick Public Library is seeking a personable, reliable, self-motivated, energetic person for a part-time Page/Shelver position.  The ideal candidate should be a team-player and be able to work under minimal supervision.

 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Sort books/materials to be shelved and load book trucks
  • Shelve books and other material in appropriate areas
  • Clear books and other materials from tables, shelves and carrels
  • Read and straighten shelves
  • Retrieve items on holds list for patrons and/or other Libraries
  • Shift and straighten material as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must be able to speak, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Must have the ability to work well with other staff members
  • Must be able to see, read and understand titles, call numbers and dates
  • Must be able to sort accurately by alphabetical, numerical, chronological, Dewey Decimal order
  • Must be able to push or pull loaded book trucks
  • Must be able to sit, stand, reach, bend or kneel to place/retrieve books from shelves
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision.

South Brunswick Public Library

Teen Librarian/Part time position/20 hours per week

The South Brunswick Public Library is looking for a creative, self-motivated part-time librarian to join our library team.  The ideal candidate, under the direction of the Supervising Teen Librarian, will help develop and implement quality teen programming and assist with collection development.  In addition, this individual will be required to perform a variety of professional duties at the Information Desk including reference assistance and reader’s advisory for both teens and adults. 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and implement teen programs under the direction of the Supervising Teen librarian
  • Provide Reader’s Advisory services and prepare Reader’s Advisory tools
  • Maintain collection of YA material through weeding and purchasing recommendations
  • Provide reference assistance for both teens and adults
  • Advise and assist library users in the use of library services and tools
  • Advise and assist in the supervision and training of large number of teen volunteers
  • Assist with the collection development of adult nonfiction collection as needed

Requirements:

  • General knowledge of Young Adult literature
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to assist with YA library programs
  • Ability/willingness to develop a good rapport with teens to identify their needs and interests
  • Familiarity with technology and social media and the ability to adapt to changes in technology
  • Speak, write and communicate in English effectively
  • Sunday and evening hours required
  • Knowledge of SIRSI/Workflows a plus

Anticipated 2016 salary pending contract ratification is $27.53.
